As a second grader I enjoy the freedom to watch T.V. and eat the food I want to and not eat the food I don't want to. I like to have the freedom to travel. My grandparents live in Arkansas and I would really miss them if I could not go and see them. My three oldest cousins, Andy, Sam, and Ben make me proud because they are all soldiers in the military. I like to have the freedom to choose my own clothes. I am also happy to be an American because I can have my own pets. I like the freedom to go to the store and buy coloring books when I want to and to be able to play outside when I want to. I am happy to have the freedom to choose what I want to be or do when I grow up. One thing that I am not proud of is that I am not able to help all of the other people, in other countries that do not have the freedoms that I have. When I am old enough I will use my freedom to buy the children I Africa coloring books, clothes, food, and houses for them to live in. Let's go America! 2nd place -2- Ashlynn Merz - Mitchell I Am Proud To Be an American There are many countries I could call my home, but the one I call my own is the United States of America. There are many reasons I am proud to be an American. Our government gives us many freedoms. We have the opportunity to choose our own places to live, to have an education, the freedom to make a living in which ever occupation we decide, and to go to the Church of our choice. I am not afraid to go to sleep at night because I know we are protected by the best military soldiers in the world. People in the United States are treated equal no matter the color of our skin or if you are a girl or a boy. I have learned a lot about other countries and the way their people are treated unfairly. I feel blessed God let me be born in the United States. 3rd place-2- Austin Oney - Holy Family Proud To Be an American I'm proud to be an American because I live in a country where people are allowed to make their own choices. There are people in some countries that are not as lucky as us. They are not allowed to pick a President. I also feel lucky to know that there are soldiers at war trying to keep me and my family safe. I am happy to know that I am growing up in the best country in the world. 3rd Grade 1st place -3- Reed Hawkins - Holy Family "Proud To Be an American " I am proud to be an American for many different reasons. People from many different backgrounds live together in peace. I am also very thankful for the people in the military who protect us day by fighting in Iraq. Without them our country would not be a safe place. I appreciate the sacrifice they make every day by being away from their families. I am also very proud of the people of this country who do great things. We have the smartest scientist, the best athletes, and the best doctors in the world. Because of this, many people around the world come to our country to live. Some of them even become citizens. I like it because it makes our country even greater to have different types of people. I learn something new from everyone. Because of all the different people in this country and all of their ideas, the United States is the best country in the world to live in. We have smart people who figure out how to feed everyone and cure terrible diseases like cancer. Also, we must be very thankful of all the men and women in the military who make sure we are safe. They fight every day for us and some even gives their lives. We should never forget them and thank them every day. 2nd place - 3-Ashley Richey - Holy Family Why I'm Proud to Be an American! Living in America we have many freedoms and rights that other countries don't have. We make many of our own choices like to go to school or what religion we want to be, what to do if we grow up, if we want to get married and have a family of our own, or just work a job (maybe even be President). I'm so lucky to be a part of this great nation. We have so many opportunities given to us everyday. This country was built on a lot of courage and bravery of men and women. Both of my grandpas, uncles, and cousin serve/served in the military and they have helped make our country a safe and secure place to live, for that I am thankful and proud. 3rd place -3- Nick Tinervia - Holy Family I am proud to be an American. I live in a country that gives me a lot of freedom and lets me make my own choices. When I get old enough to vote, I can vote for the people I want to run the city, state, and country. I can even vote for the President of the United States. My mom and dad can choose where to send me to school. I can be anything I want if I work hard and want it bad enough. I am proud to be an American because we help other countries that don't have as much as we do. Some people don't like that and want to hurt us. We have been in wars to help other countries keep or get their freedom like us. I am proud to be an American because we stick together if bad things happen in our country. A lot of people went to help fill sandbags last month when the rivers flooded places. Police, firemen, nurses, and doctors went to New York to help people when the planes flew into the Trade Center. I am proud to be an American because this is the greatest place to live in the world. 4th Grade 1st place -4- Maryssa Norton - Holy Family I'm proud to be an American. To be an American means to have the freedom that other countries do not. Because of our freedom we are a strong nation. At times it may seem that we are divided in our beliefs, but deep down our country will come together in times of crisis. Many different people make up our country. No matter what religion or ethnic background, Americans will always join together for a common cause and offer support. Over the years, many brave soldiers have served our country to protect freedom. My great grandfather and my uncle have served to protect freedom. I am very proud of them. I might be a child but I can believe in freedom and support my country like any other person. I am proud to be an American and I will respect the freedom that was given to me. 2nd place -4- Bailee Palmisano - Frohardt I am proud to be an American because I am free. I am free to go to the store. I am free to call my friends. I am free to do anything that I choose with my life. Being an American means my freedom is protected by many. The people that serve in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines protect us and our freedoms. Many soldiers died serving our country and protecting us. That is why we should thank them because they were proud Americans protecting us and protecting freedom. My grandpa was in the army and Navy. My two cousins are in the Air Force. I know that they work hard. I am so proud of them and that makes me even more proud to be an American. We celebrate all that they do on the Fourth of July when we celebrate America. When I think of the Fourth of July, it makes me proud. Proud of our military; proud of our free country; and proud of our flag. I love our flag because it stands for the USA. I wave the flag with honor. I am so proud to be able to wave the flag. We should all be proud to be Americans because we have so much more than many other countries. We should take what we have for granted. We should always be reminded that freedom isn't free. And we should always show how proud we are by waving our flag, putting our hand on our heart when we say the Pledge of Allegiance, celebrating the Fourth of July, and thanking the military. I am proud to be an American and I will always do my best to wave the red, white, and blue flag, to honor my country, the United States of America, and to never forget what others did to make this country a great place to live. PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN! 3RD place -4- Matilynn Barron - Frohardt I'm proud to be an American in fact, we should all be! We have liberties other countries only dream of. All Americans should be proud that our country has made changes in the laws when necessary. Its now illegal to treat someone differently than other people because of their beliefs, gender, or race. Our country was created out of the need of religious freedom. The pilgrims sacrificed security of their homeland to experience this luxury. America has made that a reality. Women and men are now equals although they haven't always bee. At one time the doors of employment opportunities were closed to many females. Now, the door of opportunity is open for men and women alike. Our most recent battle for equality was with the African American race. The ballet was horrific. Some people even lost their lives. Laws were passes to make this treatment illegal. These changes have made our country something to truly be proud of. Here in America we have an unimaginable amount of opportunity! We supply children educational opportunities that not all countries can afford for their children. We have the opportunity to share the resources we've been blessed wit. Most importantly we have the ability to make our own choices. Our government doesn't decide our choices for us. The land of opportunity is something to be proud of. The freedoms we enjoy in America don't come without a heavy price. We have people who are willing to give up their safety to create a more secure environment for us to live in. I'm proud to live in a country that has heroes to protect me. Unfortunately we take for granted the freedoms we have and use everyday. Its only when we take moments to reflect when we truly realize how important and costly these gifts were to us Americans. As I think of the price that was paid in the past and is being paid today, I'm even more proud to call America my country! 5th Grade 1st place - 5-Nick Richey - Holy Family "I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free" is a line from the song "God Bless the USA", written by Lee Greenwood. By being an American citizen we have freedom and it is important to us because its what we stand for. Without our freedom, Americans would be living the life of people in other countries where freedom doesn't exist, like Iraq. Men and women from our country are over there fighting to help straighten out their countries problems. America has had problems also, and has gone through tough times, but we have learned to become a better place for people to live. Here, we are free to do many great things. By living in America, I am able to go to Church any place I want and choose the religion I want to practice, attend either a private or public school of my choice, and become the person I want to be. I am allowed to speak out freely without fear. I can vote at 18 and decide who will be the next President, mayor of my city, or the alderman of my neighborhood. We know that we have the freedom of life, liberty, and are able to pursue our happiness, by being an American citizen. Our country started with only 13 colonies and has grown into a country of 50 states. Our flag, nicknamed "Old Glory", is the symbol of our country. The thirteen stripes represent the thirteen original colonies. The white stripes stand for purity. The red stripes stand for determination. The blue stands for justice. The stars represent the heavens and all that divine. The American Flag is something everyone in America should be proud of. America also helps people that ware poor or less fortunate than others by providing food, shelter, and medical care. America also donates food, medical supplies, and money to people in need all around the world. People also come from other countries to visit our hospitals and doctors because of all the technology and knowledge available here in the United states. Being an American citizen gives us many things to be thankful for, but sometimes we take them for granted. We are able to attend school, get good jobs, and plan for a good future. Therefore, we should all work hard to become citizens that our country will be proud of and not do illegal things or break the laws that we have been provided with. We live in a great country, why would anyone want to live anywhere else? I know I am proud to live in the United States of America. 2nd place -5- Alyssa Bridick - Holy Family I am proud to be an American because America stands for freedom. Our country has all kinds of freedom that other countries do not have. Our freedom of religion let's us go to church and worship in the religion of our choice. Our right to vote in elections allows us to take part in choosing leaders for our nation. Our freedom of speech allows us to voice our opinions openly. I am proud to be an American because our country is composed of people from different ethnic backgrounds. Our country is united together with English as our primary language, but we are free to speak other languages and practice different customs preserving our ethnic background. I am proud to be an American because our country is known as the land of opportunity. Many of our ancestors came here to escape their countries in search of a better life. People today are still choosing to start a new life in America. In this land of opportunity, I am able to choose the school of my choice, what I want to be when I grow up, and where I want to live. In America, there are many opportunities to become your own success story in your life. I am proud to be an American as I continue to learn about our country's history and how brave Americans were to fight in previous wars. Today, our soldiers continue to exhibit bravery and uphold our land of freedom and democracy. I feel safe to live here because I know our soldiers are protecting us. I thank them for fighting for our country and hope they will return safely to their families soon. Finally, I am proud to be an American especially on the Fourth of July, which is the celebration of our nation's birthday. This special holiday is when many people proudly display their American Flags and show true patriotism. This is a day when we can truly be proud of our country and servicemen, and feel fortunate to live in this great nation. 3rd place -5- Kristopher Keller - St. Elizabeth Clearly, I live in what my forefathers called "Land of the Free and Home of the Brave". People from other countries come to America to find the freedoms we take for granted. America is made of many cultures and people come here to share opportunities they would never receive in their country. America started small, only 13 colonies and now we have 50 states. As an American, I have the opportunity and freedom to pursue my goal and ambitions. I know if I work hard and get a good education I can expand my future opportunities. There are many schools, colleges, and special education available to those of us who want to be successful. With freedom to choose I can choose from public, private, or even home schooling. I feel I have the best type of education and religion both at home and at school. As an American, I have the freedom of speech. This freedom allows me to express my opinions. I have many sources to obtain information; news, media, television, books, magazines, and the internet and these are only a few. People in some countries are not allowed to watch television, read books, magazines, newspaper, or even speak for fear of great punishment or even death. As an American I can look back in history at the many wars we have fought as a nation and how proud families were if their soldiers. The war in Iraq has taken many American soldiers lives or left them wounded and they continue to fight to protect us. I appreciate their sacrifice and it makes me proud of America and to be an American. I'm proud to be able to prepare care packages for those serving in Iraq. My church and I pray for the soldiers. As an American, I have the opportunity to own property. I can choose where to live, the type of house and even the school I want to attend. There are many places that help poor families to get a house. They say owning a home is the American Dream. Americans are able to elect their government leaders in a democratic process. The President is elected by the people and runs the United States. The President makes decisions to help keep the country safe. Many countries never have a choice on anything. Americans have a strong history of generosity helping other people in the world. We send supplies, food, volunteers, and doctors to other countries to provide medicine and operations for poor people in need of help. I live I a place that is able to help others and I am very proud to be part of a country that is willing to help the needy. I say the Pledge of Allegiance and a daily prayer at school. These both remind me how lucky I am to live in America where I have the freedom to make choices. When I look at the flag each day, I remember the soldiers and their sacrifices. I hope someday all American will realize what a great gift our country is and talk about it with pride. I am very proud to be an American. 6th Grade 1st place -6- Haley Webb - St. Elizabeth The feeling of being free it's a feeling like no other. That's why I am proud to be an American. I can be anything I want because I am free. I love how the colors on our flag make me feel proud to be an American. It's great to be here in America the home of the proud and the brave. I'm free because the soldiers go to war to protect my rights. I take great pride in that. The soldiers are very brave and we owe them much honor. If we didn't have the soldiers I do not know what my country would do to keep my freedom. I believe the soldiers are true heroes. When you are free you can do many things independently as long as you follow the law. You can state what you believe and your opinion. You can wear what you want to wear. You don't have to hide your face or cover it with burkes. I am also aloud to believe in what religion I choose. When you are in America you have many opportunities come by. You have the freedom to work where you want to work, live where you want to live, and love whom you want to love. To me America grants better opportunities than most countries offer. It is nice to have a life where you are able to make your own decisions. I'm glad I can be anyone I want to be. America is like a scale that is always equal. The USA has a law that everyone in America is all treated equally. it does not matter what skin color they have, what they believe, or if you're a man or an woman. We are all equal. We are all one. 2nd place -6- India Farrance - Grigsby I'm proud to be an American, because I live in a country where I'm truly free. Where it's ok to disagree with the government, and voice your own opinion and no harm will come to you because of it. One of the reasons America is a great country, no matter your race, gender, or religious beliefs, you can achieve anything any thing you want, with hard work. One reason that is possible is that we have some of the best schools here in America. I'm also proud to be an American because we have soldiers fighting in a war, so we can be safe. There are many men and women fighting, and risking their own lives just for this country. America is a great country because I get a great education. If I do badly, I can get help. I don't get kicked out of school and assigned to a job, like in other countries. Here in America we have many rights and freedoms. Those are only a few. That is why I'm proud to be an American. 3rd place -6- Savanna Maue - St. Elizabeth I'm proud to be an American because we have so many advantages living here in America than other countries. We have good leaders that want to keep us safe. They want to fight for our freedom and the freedom for our children when we get older. Throughout the years, our military has fought to keep us safe, and even now they are risking their lives for us. Whether you believe in the war going on now, there are many men, women, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, son, and daughters waking up every day not knowing if it will be their last day as they fight the war. We should support them and pray for them daily. We have freedoms that other countries don't have like the freedom of speech, and the freedom to attend and worship at the church of our choice. We have good health care to meet the needs of sick people and those suffering of disease. We are one of the wealthiest countries simply by having enough to eat, clothes on our backs, and a roof over our head. We have good education to educate children. In other countries adults work long hours for very low pay, and they live in bad conditions. In America you have the opportunity to make a good living by attending college and working hard. In other countries many people are homeless. We may have some homeless people but we have shelters and programs to help people get back on their feet. I love living in America and now I will appreciate all the things that our leaders and the military do to keep us safe. They have families but they still risk their lives to keep us safe. America is the land of opportunity?and that's why I am proud to be an American! 7th Grade 1st place -7- Baylin Petrillo - Coolidge I am proud to be an American. What a wonderful thing to be able to say, because I love having freedom. My life hasn't been decided for me at a young age. Another reason I love America so much is because people are equal here, you're not judged on what your family has done, or will do. It's up to you to make your life how you want it to be. My first reason of being proud to be an American is my freedom. Like I have freedom to go to whatever church I desire. Education is very important to me. I may not like getting up for school every morning but it will pay off in the end. American schools are so amazing people come from all over the world to go to some of our schools. We have great teachers and unbelievable classrooms for students to learn to become whatever they want with freedom. My second reason for being ever grateful of our country is I can make my own decisions. My mom and dad don't choose my future. They help me a lot along the way but I can choose what I want to be when I grow up. How I want to help the world and contribute to society. We as Americans I think take our country for granted. When we live in such an amazing country I think we should love it. My third reason to be proud to be an American is the way that we are all so equal. But sadly there was a time when we all weren't. our country has gone through many hared things war, depressions, poverty, yet we have overcome a lot of things. And as a mixed person I am proud to say I have freedom to do as many things as any other person. This gives me so much happiness. I LOVE AMERICA! So as a recap the reasons I'm so proud to be an American is first the freedom. Second reason is I can make my own decisions. Third I am equal with every other American, no matter what their race is. I am proud to be an American for so many other reason, these are just a few simple paragraphs to describe it. 2nd place - 7- Alexis Mayes - Coolidge There are many reasons why I am proud to be an American. One reason is because we have so many rights. Another reason is because we have such great resources. A third reason is because e we have so much more than other countries. We are a very rich country and we should be proud of that. We have a lot of rights in the USA. One right we have that other countries don't is the right whatever religion we choose. Most countries have an "assigned" religion. There are so many religions in the United States to choose from. We just don't realize how lucky we are to have the power to choose. We have many resources here in the USA. We have a great water supply. We can get clean water any time we want it. We also have great food choices. We have the choice of any food we want. Our country is very wealthy. We are one of the wealthiest countries in the world. We use money a lot to trade. We buy many things from other countries. Our children get a great education because of the money spent on the schools. Our country has many great things. We have so many things that we take for granted. We have a lot more than other countries. We should be proud of that. I am proud to be an American. 3rd place -7- Jake Schulz - Coolidge I am proud to be an American. I'm proud because we have freedom. We have a higher quality of living than most other countries. And we have a democracy. I am lucky to have been born in America. We have freedom. We have the right to say what we want and write what we want. We have independence. We don't have slavery in America. Also we have the freedom of the press. We have a higher quality of living than most other countries. We have more clothes than other people. We have more advanced technology. We also have luxuries such as toys and games. Also our climate is very nice. We have a democracy. In America if you are 18 or older you have the right to vote. We don't have just one person who controls the whole country. We have the President, Vive-President, and other people so that laws have to go through before they can be laws. So our country is more stable than others. In conclusion, I'm proud to be an American. We have freedom. We have a higher quality of living. And we have a democracy. People who live in America are very lucky. 8th Grade 1st place -8- Brendan Green - Coolidge There are millions of reasons anybody should be proud to be an American. After all, this country fought some of the hardest battles and wars in history while unraveling ground breaking inventions and discoveries. America has had, has today, and always will have more rights and freedoms than any other country in the world. Not only is America the most free country, it is the safest. No wonder millions of people came to the Unite d States. However, nothing worthwhile is ever easily attained. Americans have had plenty of conflicts with the British ( at least during the 18th and 19th century). From the Stamp Act to the Boston Tea Party to the Boston Massacre to the American Revolution (and of course all of the events that occurred in between), Americans struggled and muddled through to become a united, free country of one. To me, that is a lot to be proud of. And what's more is all the research and discovery and inventions that went on in between all of the British quarrelling. Dozens of inventions were created during, such as the circular saw (Samuel Miller) and the spinning wheel (Samuel Crompton). Those were some inventions created hundreds of years ago that have evolved into devices or machines that we still use today. It makes me proud that men like these were making inventions before they were even part of an independent country. Could you imagine what an empty gap there would be in the world, hadn't America been founded? So many people immigrated to America to live in a place that is free. That is how America acquired the nickname "The Land of Opportunity". And not just a place that would be free, but a place where they could plant crops, make their own money, raise a family in a better place, to basically live the American Dream. In America, you have the freedom of speech; the freedom to say anything you want. You can speak out against, or for anything you want. It doesn't matter if you're speaking out against a poor man who owns a small mom and pop business or the President of the United States. Many of our ancestors died of starvation, torture, execution, or just the hazards of sailing to give us that right. It makes me proud to have such brave, courageous ancestors. Another giant reason (and probably the biggest reason) that people immigrated to America is for the freedom of religion. The ones who immigrated to America grew tired of being persecuted by organized religions so they came to America in hopes of practicing different religions; free religions. At that time, even thinking about a different religion would result in long jail time, extreme punishment, or even death. I am proud that my ancestors risked their lives just so I can practice whatever religion I want. Many people say that America is not free. If you don't think America if free you should take a look at poor countries, of even England 200 years ago. Life in one of those countries is very harsh. I think that we have all been spoiled so rotten that we have forgotten how great America is. I am not going to tell you what to think, but I think America always has been the greatest country in the world and always will be. If you don't think so, I implore you to reconsider. I am proud to be a part of this country; I am proud to be a part of the USA. 2nd place -8- Samuel Richey - Holy Family I believe every American citizen should feel some sort of pride for the country they live in. I feel that my country is a place to live if you want the rights and freedom, liberty, and justice. Many early immigrants felt the same way I do. They hoped to get away from the harsh rules of King George of Great Britain that were unfair to all citizens. These immigrants spoke of "The American Dream", which they all longed for. The United States of America is a place of hope for all who need it, and it is also a place to live the life of freedom, which everybody deserves. Freedom is one of the most important attributes of living in the United States of America. To have freedom is not something you should take for granted, because there are many people in other countries worldwide that cannot experience the types of liberty and justice we have. Many of the freedoms we enjoy are entitled to us through the United States Constitution. This four page document, which started in 1787, has evolved into the guidelines of our country today. I believe freedom is the most important part of the United States. The Unites States Flag, nicknamed" Old Glory", is they symbol of our country. The thirteen stripes represent the thirteen original colonies from which the U.S. originated. The white stripes stand for purity and innocence. The red stripes stand for valor and hardiness. The blue shows justice, vigilance, and perseverance. The stars represent the heavens and all that is divine. The American Flag is a symbol of hope that we should be proud of as American citizens. The United States of America has some amazing benefits. First of all, all people are born with the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We are also born under the 'Bill of Rights". This is composed of the first ten amendments to the "United States Constitution" that was adopted on September 17, 1787. in the bill of rights, such rights are listed as; freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, rights to bear arms, freedom of quartering soldiers, protection of unreasonable search and seizure, protection from self- incrimination, rights to a trial by jury, protection from cruel and unusual punishment and excessive bail, and it lists the powers of the states and people. The United States Constitution is the corner stone for all Americans' life, freedoms, and sense of security. All Americans, without a doubt, should be proud of their country. The country we live in is by no means perfect and some changes need to be made, but we should still be proud of the advantages that we already have as American citizens of the Unites States. I feel that I live in a country where I can live a normal, justified life. That is why I am proud to live in the United States of America. 3rd place -8- Jessica Williams - St. Elizabeth Imagine a world where you lost your freedoms. The right to choose stripped away from us. a leader consumed by his own money, that his people suffer beneath him. A young child imprisoned for speaking out the truth. This could've been the world we now live in, but a group of men decided to stop denying themselves these rights. They picked one among them to write up a constitution to lead and guide their newly formed country. The right to speech and press are essential rights. If these rights were taken from us, our prisons would be full of Americans, young and old, who chose to speak their minds and were punished because of it. Corruption can be exposed in the upper ranks of office by journalist and reporters because of the right to press. Without this right, the higher ranking official could have the offending journalist imprisoned to protect his reputation. The right to petition and assembly are important because these rights secure our freedoms of speech and press to the next level. They guarantee our right to gather and exercise our right to free speech. They also guarantee our right to express the opinions of a group through the use of petition. The last essential right is freedom of religion. The freedom to choose whomever you wish to worship is an important right. Whether you love God or Buddha doesn't legally matter. Your choice of religion is another way to secure free speech and press. In a way these rights all protect one another. Many of us don't realize the fear that is alive in a country without freedom. The majesty of such a beautiful country is strong enough to be worthy of the pride of the American people. We work to bring this pride to other countries every chance we get. |
