Students involved in cherry bomb incident expelled

Three Granite City High School students have been expelled for their alleged involvement in a cherry-bomb incident that ripped apart a locker in the high school gymnasium on April 11.

The school board handed down the expulsions in executive session at the board’s April 22 meeting.

Cody Crews, 17, was expelled along with two 16-year-olds. The names of the 16-year-olds have not been released because they were not charged as adults.Crews was charged as an adult in Madison County Circuit Court with one count of damaging government-supported property and one count of felony possession of an incendiary devise.

The 16-years-olds were charged with one count of felony arson in Madison County Court.

School Superintendent Harry A. Briggs could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
